System Information
Application Details
Joints smaller than 10 mm are generally designed for crack control, so they are not movement / expansion joints. The ratio of joint width to joint depth at the time of sealant application is important (indicator value for + 10 ° C).
For a temperature difference of + 40 ° C:
Joint length 2 m 4 m 6 m 8 m 10 m
Minimum joint width 10 mm 10 mm 10 mm 15 mm 20 mm
Sealant thickness 10 mm 10 mm 10 mm 12 mm 15 mm For
outdoor areas ( for temperature difference up to + 80 ° C):
Joint length 2 m 4 m 5 m 6 m 8 m
Minimum joint width 10 mm 15 mm 18 mm 20 mm 30 mm
Sealant thickness 10 mm 12 mm 15 mm 15 mm 25 mm
Since the changes to be made after the production is generally not economical, all joints should be sized and designed by the designer / contractor before the production in accordance with the relevant standards. The
parameters to be taken into account when calculating the required joint width are the technical properties of the joint sealant, the technical properties of the construction materials it adheres to, the factors that the building and the joint will be exposed to, the construction method and dimensions of the joint.
Joint width 10 mm 15 mm 20 mm 25 mm 30 mm
Joint depth 10 mm 12 – 15 mm 17 mm 20 mm 25 mm
Joint length / 600 ml ~ 6 m ~ 2.5 – 3.0 m ~ 1.8 m ~ 1.2 m ~ 0.8 m
Joint length / 300 ml ~ 3 m ~ 1.5 m ~ 0.9 m ~ 0.6 m ~ 0.4 m
Backing rod: Only closed-cell polyethylene foam backing rods should be used.
Consumption / Joint Design Sealant
application at the same level as the floor prevents damages and dirt accumulation.
Sealant application below ground level protects the sealant from mechanical loads.
Substrate Quality It should be a clean, dry, homogeneous surface free from oil, grease, dust and loose particles. Cement laitance on the surface should be removed.
Surface Preparation / Priming
Non-absorbent surfaces:
Metals, powder paints etc. It should be sanded with a fine sandpaper, then cleaned with SikaCleaner-205 and a clean cloth / towel. After at least 15 minutes of drying time, SikaPrimer-3 N is applied with a brush. At least 30 min before applying mastic. should be waited (maximum 8 hours). For PVC use SikaPrimer-215.
At least 30 min before applying mastic. should be waited (maximum 8 hours).
Absorbent surfaces:
Concrete, aerated concrete, cementitious coatings, mortars, bricks, etc. SikaPrimer-3 N should be applied with a brush.
At least 30 min before applying mastic. should be waited (maximum 8 hours).
Important note:
Primers only increase adhesion. They can never replace the correct surface cleaning and do not increase the strength of the surface much. Primers improve the long term performance of the sealant applied joint. For more detailed information, refer to the Sika® Primer chart.
Application Conditions / Limitations
Substrate Temperature Minimum + 5 ° C / Maximum + 40 ° C
Ambient Temperature Minimum + 5 ° C / Maximum + 40 ° C
Substrate Moisture Must be Dry
Application Instructions
Application Method / Tools
Sikaflex® PRO-3WF is ready to use. After proper joint and surface preparation,
insert backing rod to the required depth and apply primer if necessary. Place the cartridge / sausage in the appropriate gun and tighten the Sikaflex PRO-3 WF slowly making sure that it is in full contact with the joint cheeks. Fill the joint without any air gap.
Then smooth the Sikaflex PRO-3 WF by pressing it lightly against the edges of the joint but without overflowing and ensure that it adheres to the edges. Masking tape should be used when sharp edge lines or very clean joint edges are required. Masking tape should be removed while the sealant is still soft. Use correction fluid for the perfect sealant surface. Cleaning of Tools Clean all tools and application equipment with Sika Colma Cleaner or Sika TopClean-T immediately after use. Hardened / cured material can only be cleaned mechanically.
Notes on Application / Limitations
Elastic sealants should generally not be over painted. With suitable coatings and paints, the joint edges can be painted up to 1 mm.
Conformity tests should be carried out according to DIN 52 452-2. Color changes may occur due to exposure to chemicals, high temperatures and UV rays (especially with white colored mastics). However, this change in color will not adversely affect the technical performance and durability of the product. Please consult our Technical Service before using it on natural stones and coatings.
